We plan to publish our leading titles in complete and unabridged audiobook editions. As a departure from present-day industry practice, readers will be able to buy both the audiobook and the paperback in special combined edition, allowing the text to be “read-along” with the spoken word. These editions will cost little more than a conventional paperback.
This range of books will appeal to students of English as a foreign language, as well as to readers whose first language is not English. But they will also suit the busy general reader, who will be able to listen to selected chapters whilst driving to- and from work, as well as relaxing with the book in conventional paperback form.
Integrated written and spoken texts represent some of the most effective and imaginative departures from classroom language learning in recent years, for example the “Learn XXX Now” Transparent Language series of courses. Whereas we will never aspire to such a high level of voice/text integration as this, Undead Tree Publications will offer titles which are more accessible to the non-native English speaker through a combination of voice narration and the printed page.
As a first step towards achieving this goal, as of April 2009 we are offering selected audiobooks free-of-charge chapter-by-chapter as MP3 podcasts downloadable from this site. For each book to which this applies, successive chapters will appear on a monthly basis.
